The West too is in love with this ingredient and if you still haven’t given coconut oil a try, perhaps you should read its very many benefits. This multipurpose oil can be used for various tasks – cooking, head massage, body massage, in face packs, etc. Let’s take a look at why coconut oil is so much in demand even today.
Hair problems no more!
Dandruff, itchy scalp, frizzy hair, hair fall – you name it and coconut oil will be the solution to all your hair worries. A regular head massage or champi is enough to keep these problems at bay. Bollywood celebrities like Deepika Padukone, Kareena Kapoor, Nargis Fakhri and several others have openly declared the secret to their lovely locks being regular champi
with coconut oil. Mix it with other potent ingredients and you have your hair elixir right there.
Tame the frizziness: Make a hair pack using coconut and olive oil. Mix in equal quantities and then warm it slightly. Now apply it from your hair root to the tip and then cover your head with a shower cap. Leave it on for more than an hour. Then, rinse it off with a mild herbal shampoo and apply conditioner. You will find your hair to be less frizzy and it will exude a natural radiance.
Control the fall: If you have noticed too many hair strands on your brush, it is time to do some damage control. Here’s a pack you can make and store for a few months’ time. Take about 100 ml of coconut oil and add a paste of fenugreek (methi) seeds, amla powder and curry leaves (kadi patta) to it. Apply it at least once weekly and leave it overnight before washing your hair with shampoo. This pack will also prevent your hair from greying too soon.
Dandruff banisher: Dandruff and itchy scalp go hand-in-hand and if you do face this embarrassing problem, you now have a natural solution for it. Grind some neem leaves and then add a few drops of tea tree oil in it. Now add this mixture to coconut oil and apply this paste to your scalp. Leave it for 30-60 minutes and then wash off with a mild shampoo.
Other beauty benefits
Eye make-up remover: You can use coconut oil to remove make-up from your eyes, unless you have oily skin. Simply dab it on a cotton ball and then wipe your mascara or eyeshadow with it. Even waterproof ones will come off with ease without too much of a struggle.
Cheek highlighter: Singer Kelly Osbourne loves this trick and has shared with her fans how she uses coconut oil as a cheek highlighter. After you’ve applied your make-up, apply a hint of coconut oil on your cheekbones to highlight them naturally.
Burn soother: If you have a minor burn that has left your skin irritated, you can soothe the area by applying some coconut oil on it. Mix in a little aloe vera gel to soothe it further. Do this regularly to heal the area and prevent burn scars.
Apart from all of these uses, you can simply give yourself a coconut body massage every now and then as it is extremely good for your skin, especially if you have dry skin. The oil will help keep your skin stay taut and prevent stretch marks, scars, dryness, etc. Coconut oil is really an all-rounder and you can use this effectively for banishing everyday beauty problems.
